PA Testing (PAT Testing) − Portable Appliance Testing

P. A. Testing or PATesting (Portable appliance testing) is the name given to the in-service repeats of the manufacturers' safety tests of electrical equipment. Business owners are required by Irish law to carry out P. A. Testing on all portable appliances. P. A. Testing is essentially a series of safety tests that are carried out on all electrical products within a business premises. Each individual appliance is then assessed on a pass or fail basis, and a certificate of P.A. Testing compliance is awarded.

Comply with Safety, Health & Work Act SI732 of 2007, which puts responsibility on owners, directors, managers and safety officer to ensure the safety of all employees. Any appliance that plugs into a socket should be tested regularly and records maintained for five years. This includes:

• Office Equipment: PC, monitor, printer, scanner, desk fan, desk lamp, all leads
• Canteen Equipment: fridge, kettle, heater, radio, toaster, vending M/C, water heater/cooler, all leads
• Workshop Equipment: chop saw, drill, all hand tools, extension lead, battery charger, transformer, vending M/C, heater, all leads
